Phew just got back from my trip to Portugal~ I was very looking forward to it, and Portugal did not disappoint. He is unexpectedly hi-tech, easygoing and pure.

Everything were absolutely fabulous and worth every penny. If I have to rank my favorite events, they would be
10. Talking about how England and Portugal got married while dining with an old English couple in Seixal, Madeira. According to Mr. Old English dude, Portugal is England's oldest ally (in fact, the world's oldest alliance). He also talked about his past travel to all of UK's children countries, except Canada (lol Hetalia conversation with a 70 year old man that was so good) The other old couple at the table were Welsh. Their table manner were amazing and made this Canadian a bit self-conscious about her own or lack thereof.
09. Accidentally caught the final part of Eurovision song contest in my hotel in Funchal, Madeira. I loved those architecture on the head special effects short clips between each song. When I got back, I was able to understand what all the European Hetalia fans were talking about.
08. Tasting Port Wine in Vila Nova de Gaia, and bought home a bottle of Vintage Port of my birth year.
07. Discovering "Opan", a pastry shop in Funchal, Madeira, the best pastries/coffee I had ever had. Anything I had in North America were disgusting in comparison.
06. Bought things from "Pingo Doce", the supermarket chain, 7 times in total in the 3 cities visited. Truly an oasis.
05. While returning to Toronto, and discovered that the escalator in the subway wasn't running, two very shy black guys came and insisted helping me carry my really heavy luggage up the stairs.
04. Not the most impressive aquarium ever, but Mola mola (sunfish) made Lisbon's Oceanario that much greater.
03. All of Belem, Lisbon. All my favorite Age of Discoveries history, such as sculptures and paintings of my silly crush Henry the Navigator, the tomb of my other silly crush Vasco da Gama, the majestic Wind Rose + Padrão dos Descobrimentos. Also, never will forget the world's best pasteis de nata.
02. Madeira's colors. Exotic plants, exotic fruits, and exotic fish. I was never a fan of fish, but Madeira's Espada (scabbard fish) was so delicious I think I will be able to eat fish a lot more now. Oranges and banana in Madeira are extra sweet and juicy too.
01. Porto Santo, definitely. The island is truly a paradise. The sand is so soft, the beach is clean and garbage free, no crowd at all, and the ocean is TEAL GREEN! Like Cape Verde! I haven't swim in an ocean in more than a decade and it was so liberating! Went home happy with bruises and sunburns lol.
The only thing that made the trip imperfect was the extreme ignorance demonstrated by some young people there. Maybe they're not Portuguese and might also be tourists, but still, HAVE THEY NEVER SEEN ASIANS BEFORE? In Lisbon, a group of young people handed down a bag of peanuts from a yellow tram and said "konichiwa" to us (and they were laughing, obviously intended to be offensive). In Funchal, a group of drunk young people walk past by us and yelled "Chinatown!". At a garden, some taxi driver yells "Madame! Ichi ni san shi!" trying to get our attention that we would take his taxi (I did my homework and knew where to take the bus and save money sorry). Not to mention so many times I noticed people staring at us in a rude way. It is true that I haven't seen many asians in Portugal, not even in the tourist area (less than 5 I would say), but these things made me a tad bit disappointed in humanity. Still a beautiful country, nonetheless.
Onto some other random sketches...

Urrrh so unfinished OTZ they're just sketches I lost my patience. Maritime couple. I was trying to draw provinces older here.
I don't know much about Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, but so far everything I read told me that they were an interesting couple. New Brunswick used to be married, or I like to say a common law of Nova Scotia, through arrangement by daddy UK. They later split up because New Brunswick had a crush on daddy instead OTZ. Eventually she grew out of the stupid crush, and the two started to talk about forming a family, along with little sister Prince Edward Island. This family will have good relationship with America and stand on its own. It did not happen because Ontario and Quebec were overpowering, but Nova Scotia works very hard, after confederation, to protect the interests of this conceptual "maritime family". Very interesting relationship ~ I think it's very sexy. LOL. *embarrassed*
While I was gone, Canucks was eliminated. Oh well here is a pissed off big boob BC proposed by
spankpig. I drew BC's boob small before because she's Asian *shot* but big boob BC is nice too.

People at Bahamut forum were talking about what was ChibiTaiwan wearing in the History of Taiwan post (that was a long time ago). Since nobody really figured out, here is older Taiwan wearing that thing. It's aboriginal clothing from the Tao (Yami) tribe, a tribe living on Taiwan's Orchid Island. I chose it because it was the easiest to draw and the most obviously Austronesian. Other tribes also have awesome fashion and I would love to draw them all but there are too many.
Now I should go and work on a request pic.

Oh man, apparently I have big boobs and nice pale skin 'cause lots of Chinese women comment on it. xp
I was hoping to see the territories and their wolves. For some reason NWT reminds me of Fraser from Due South...probably because he has a half dog half wolf named Diefenbaker XD
Will we be seeing more arts from you soon? :o

I was wondering what I can do with provinces-tans...doing some very random sketches. Oh I never stop drawing stuff, right now I have a request pic to do for someone, then later...I'm sure something will pop up. Also other ideas for medical and original illustrations. My body is so jetlagged though I want to go to sleep at 10pm.

I'm glad you had such a great time at my home!
And concerning the "Asiatic ignorance" and Portugal, yes it's true. We're not really used to see Asian people, so that's why maybe some people react in a stramge way... We've become too much of hikikomoris...

about Portugal and Macau lol. So you're the Portugal guru that gave
all the inside tips to her OC eh? I got to say we pretty much drew Portugal the same way, without any previous discussion LOL that was one of the most amusing things I got from this fandom.
Portugal is really awesome, I don't know why it's not a more popular tourist destination for non-Europeans. Madeira oh my god, I cannot forget Madeira, such a beautiful place. Maybe I shouldn't be pimping Porto Santo since it's "Europe's best kept secret" no? LOL.
Hahaha yeah those staring...makes me really nervous. I'm just so used to the number of Asians in Canada, I started to realize that there were absolutely no Asians as soon as I arrived in Zurich lol. Good thing those rude ones are the very young...they'll grow out of the disrespectful phase, hopefully.

To be referred to as "the Portugal guru" somehow makes me stupidly pround.Weirdpika's Portugal-tan was designed from a photo of my BF. He's pretty much the typical Portuguese, so I gave it to her as help. Portugal has to be a guy with a perm, after all. ^^
To be honest, I never visited neither Madeira nor Azores, so now I'm jealous of you. I spent my life in the continent and have never checked out the islands. T^T
Oh, pimp it, pimp it! And maybe Himaruya will notice us one day T___T
There aren't many Asians in Europe. Well, at least not as many as at Al and Matty's. And young people are always silly or retarded in one way or another. :p
Ah, forgot to say that I really love your sketches! <3

So true, the youngsters are so retarded...I saw a bunch of them blowing up condoms in a GARDEN. What the hell...they took a bus all the way up to a garden on a mountain to blow up some condoms? Yes though Madeira is totally worth a go, and I'm sure Azores is just as amazing (I would go if it isn't so far OTZ no direct flight from Matty's place why)
Thank you! I am planning to once again pimp Portugal and spam everybody in the near future!

Most of the Portuguese have dark-brownish hair, but it's not as dark as the haircolour in Spain. My haircolour's somehow the same as Toris' but slightly brighter (but as I don't really have the most common haircolour, I fail as an example).
Right.............
Yes, the degree of retardation can reach peaks... But I guess that's the general rule all over the world.
Oh, so you live at Matty's? Really want to go there one day. :D
Yay!! I'll be looking forward to it.
And to hell with the no OOC rule >:DReply | Parent | Thread

Well, it's from an online manga called Hetalia, which a lot of the fanart I have here are about. All the characters in there are actually personifications of countries. Unfortunately, in the official manga there's no Portugal yet, so I made up one, just for my own fun lol.
Hmm what do you like as a traveller? 3 things I was impressed with Madeira: landscape, flora and food. Funchal is very small, so it's definitely good for relaxing, the downside being I can't suggest you much in terms of nightlife or clubbing stuff like that. Some places I would suggest
1. Monte and its gardens, if you like flowers and plants. Madeira has an exotic collection of species. It also has a decent view of funchal.
2. Take the daily cruise to Porto Santo Island. Beautiful beach there, very little crowd. Also take the island's open deck tour bus for a 2 hour tour around the island - the landscape is amazing. There won't be changing rooms there, but you'll dry quickly enough lol.
3. Do a Levada walk in Madeira!
4. I joined a day tour with "Madeira Seekers", and you get to see some breathtaking sceneries of Madeira which won't be easily accessed by public transport. They were very good, absolutely no gimmicky touristy stuff and I do recommend them. Or you can see where they stopped and try figure out a bus route yourself. Cabo Girao I think has the most breathtaking views. I only had time to do one (the West tour), but since you have two weeks, you can join many more.
5. I didn't have time to try these, but they sound interesting: boat tours for dolphin watching and bird watching. If you're a resort kind of person, stay and swim at the Lido area.
6. Have a day to just explore Funchal! The Forte de Sao Tiago and Mercado dos Lavradores I think were very nice.
7. I don't know too much about the many smaller towns on Madeira, but Porto Moniz's natural sea pool is beautiful. You should be able to take a bus there for a day from Funchal.
You can take a look at the Portugal Travel Photos I took on the links at the left and see if you like what you see! Ignore the Lisbon and Porto photos lol.
As for food, definitely try the Espada, and maybe just ask for the local fish fresh catch of the day at restaurants. Madeira cost is cheaper than mainland Portugal, so try lobsters and other luxury seafood there. Try poncha (local rum+honey), Madeira wine (at Blandy's wine lodge), bolo do caco, and bolo de mel. Any pastry on Madeira taste so good! Also you can look at their embroidery.
Well that's about it! Since your stay will be a lot longer than mine, I hope you can get more suggestions from someone! Don't hesitate to ask me for more details!
